Parducci Family Farmed: Earth-Friendly Packaging

Parducci Home Why bother using tree-free paper & soy-based inks? Does organic farming make any difference in the wine? Why should a winery be carbon neutral?

We use 100% post-consumer (New Leaf) and tree-free (Kenaf) papers in packaging, point-of-sale, stationery, brochures and all other printed materials. We use both post-consumer recycled papers (to reduce consumer waste) and tree-free papers (to avoid cutting down forests).

Parducci Family Farmed case boxes are made from chlorine free corrugated cardboard ... the chlorine bleaching process, used to make paper products white, is quite harmful to the environment. Parducci case boxes are natural and chlorine free.

We print on those earth-friendly papers and cardboards with soy-based inks. Petroleum-based inks (dominant since the 1960s) and the heavy metals they contain contaminate soil and groundwater. Soy-based inks are made from non-toxic soybean oil which is a renewable resource that doesn't harm the environment.

It is an ongoing challenge to get the look, feel and performance we need in printed materials (particularly labels and cartons), and still be "green." We are fortunate to have printing vendors that will make an extra effort, working with Parducci Family Farmed. We recently produced a high end printed carton using technology new even to the printer, and we have begun work on having our own earth-friendly label stock developed by a paper company. Of course, the most earth-friendly printing is none at all, so we are always looking at ways to reduce the amount of our printed materials.
